The Kaikoura district is a coastal settlement of about 3,200 residents located halfway between Picton at the top of the South Island, and Christchurch. The unique topography of this region, provides an abundantly rich habitat for marine mammals and seabirds making it an ideal place for experiencing nature in all its glory.

Famous for its whale watching, Kaikoura offers much more and you could spend many busy days in this delightful area: whale watch, swim with seals and dolphins, bird watch, hike in the hills or on the stunning Kaikoura Peninsula, kayak, surf, dive – and you can’t leave town without trying one of the area’s famous ‘koura’ or crayfish – bought from a roadside stall or served with flair at one of the town’s restaurants.
